Meet Alicia the barista

I’m Alicia, the writer and co-founder of Daily Barista.

With over 5 years of experience as a professional barista (working at one of the largest coffee house chains in the UK) and many more years of personal coffee-making and tasting experience, I decided to create this fun little space on the web for all things coffee.

Daily Barista is a place for me to share my thoughts, opinions and personal tips with anyone interested in coffee. Thanks to my past experience as a coffee shop barista, I have a decent amount of coffee knowledge to share and a whole bunch of stories – but that’s a post for another day.

Working as a barista is where my love for coffee first started – it is also where my dislike for mainstream coffee shops grew!

Don’t get me wrong, there are some really great independent coffee shops out there that offer amazing coffee (and I will always continue to visit them). It’s just the buy-cheap-sell-big kind of coffee shops that I really don’t like. They seem to care too much about upselling, speedy service and making as many sales as they can and not enough about the quality and taste, which let’s be honest is what we’re all looking for, right?

During my experience as a barista, I often thought about how I could replicate the barista-style drinks at home but make them cheaper and far better quality. Plus, at home, everything can be tailored to your own taste. So, you don’t have to feel awkward about ordering a ‘soya, one-shot, extra-hot, no-froth latte’ anymore!

Not only am I a huge coffee fan, but I also love to write. I went to university and studied journalism. So, putting my knowledge on the internet and sharing my passion for coffee comes quite easily to me.

As an old barista, I never thought I would be spending this much of my post-coffee-shop life writing about coffee. Yet, here I am, having a blast while doing it – although maybe that’s because I’m drinking better coffee than before as well…
